Golf lessons are taught by Mike McKain
who has
been successfully coaching new and used golfers in this area for 15 years.
He has been an avid golfer since grade school but received his professional credentials from the USGTF located in Port St. Lucie, Fl. in 1998. At 66 years of age he can still demonstrate every shot and while he doesn't play competitively he maintains a USGA handicap of 12.
He and his partner, Joe McKain, an equally fine instructor, have been instructing Junior Academies at Red Oak and at Arrowhead CC each summer for the past 10 years exposing thousands of local youth to the game of a lifetime. They have been offering a very popular Ladies Clinic every Monday night beginning mid-May each season. Mike has been active offering special Putting clinics in the Greece public libraries for several years
Lessons begin with a diagnosis of the basic fundamentals. Mike will first listen to what the student is trying to achieve. What problems he /she is experiencing; what the student 'feels' is wrong. These comments he records in the "student profile" along with other anecdotal comments relative to the daily lesson. He'll then watch you hit a few short irons from several angles and look for swing plane, weight transfer, and posture faults. He may ask to video the student for later analysis. The student grip is then checked to ascertain any anomalies before he'll have you hit longer clubs.
Depending on what he sees as needing improvement, he and the student, will design a program of three or more lessons in order to achieve those needs.
Mike recommends that his students enroll for , at least, a three lesson package (check here for pricing)
This program would include a progressive series of drills to cure faults and improve skill levels. Mike relies strongly on video analysis and uses Golf Coach software to allow the student to see what is going on during his swing. He always leaves the student with some 'homework' and expects him to return to the next lesson prepared to advance.
